One Month Update: Life in the Waiting
God Keeps Showing Up
We’ve officially been live with our adoption agency for one month—and wow, what a full month it’s been.
One of the sweetest things about this season so far is the way God continues to show up through people. Whether it’s families we met during our initial training class, others we’ve crossed paths with through adoption Facebook groups, or folks locally who are also on this journey—it’s been incredibly encouraging to learn from them, hear their stories, and celebrate alongside them. This month alone, we’ve seen two families we know receive matches after a long season of waiting, and let me tell you: there is nothing more joy-inducing than seeing those answered prayers.
The adoption/ waiting family community
The adoption community… especially among those who are waiting has been so encouraging to us. Even though we’re all in a season of waiting, there’s this unshakable peace in knowing that the right match will come at the right time for each family.
It’s not a race. It’s about trust, and timing, and leaning into faith. And when another family gets matched, we celebrate, because it’s a glimpse of what’s to come and a reminder that God is working, even in the waiting.
May Madness
And speaking of full months… May is no joke. People say it’s like "May-cember" and they are not exaggerating. From theme days and end-of-year school programs to church events and birthdays—it felt like we were running at full speed all month.
Ezra turned another year older (cue the mom tears), and we got to celebrate him with a party and lots of fun. We also celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary, and thanks to our amazing parents, we were able to sneak away for a few days to rest and reconnect. It was just what we needed.
One highlight from our trip: Josh and I picked a fiction book and actually read for fun. I can’t remember the last time I finished a book that wasn’t work-related or about personal growth. Just a good, old-fashioned, get-lost-in-it novel. We even talked about them over dinner like the book club we didn’t know we needed. The lack of screen time and the abundance of quiet was healing in every way.
Mother’s Day & Soccer Wrap-Up
Mother’s Day was also in the mix, and it reminded me (again) how grateful I am for the gift of motherhood. It’s not lost on me what a privilege it is to be “Mom” to our boys. They are my joy and my calling, and I know there’s another little one out there who will one day call me that too.
We also wrapped up soccer season and kicked off summer with something new—3v3 soccer! Josh is coaching Ezra’s team and Zeke is playing with his team from spring. We got custom jerseys made for the kids (with names and everything) and I have a feeling this summer will be full of sunscreen, soccer cleats, and team spirit.
A Busy Summer Ahead
Looking ahead, June is already stacking up: family time in Atlanta, work trip to Alabama, my annual work conference in Nashville, and more work trips and summer fun in July. But we’re holding it all loosely, knowing that this is part of the season too- living life fully while we wait.
Be the Village Fundraiser
One more update!! We launched our first fundraiser last month! We designed and sold our “Be the Village” t-shirts, and so far we’ve sold almost 40! Our goal is to hit 100 by the time we finish our adoption journey, and we’re so grateful for the support, shares, and photos people have sent in wearing theirs. It’s a tangible reminder that we are not in this alone. Our village is showing up in big and small ways, and we are so thankful.
Prayers, Grants & What’s to Come
We’re continuing to save, apply for grants (more on that in an upcoming post!), and pray through this journey. So far, we’ve submitted two grants and have another one in progress, and I’ll be sure to share what we’ve learned along the way for other families walking a similar road.
Living While We Wait
For now, we’re one month in—waiting, hoping, and living. We’re taking the advice of our agency to heart: pour into the boys in front of us, live our life fully, and wait with expectation for the one who will one day join our family. It’s not always easy, but it is full of purpose. And we’re holding tightly to that truth.
Thanks for following along. We’re so grateful to be surrounded by such an amazing village.
